JAVIER MARTINEZ
SENIOR TENNIS PROFESSIONAL

Javier was born and raised in Yopal, Colombia. At the age of 10, he was introduced to the game of tennis— he fell in love with the sport and so began his tennis journey. He started competing in national tournaments; rising to the top 20 nationally ranked in the 14U category. After years of training and competing in his country, at the national level, he reached a top junior ranking by the age of 16, rising to the top 10 nationally in the 16U and top 5 18U singles and doubles categories. His tennis career also includes ITF junior tournaments and ITF Futures tournaments throughout.

At age 17 he moved to Toronto to play and work for Kew Gardens & Tam Heather Tennis Clubs.  From there he was offered a scholarship to a D1 NCAA school in the U.S. but  instead decided to go back to Colombia and play tennis at the University of the Sabana where he studied Chemical Engineering. He helped his team qualify for Nationals two times before the pandemic hit.

Javier is grateful for what he has learned during his tennis career and looks forward to sharing his experience, knowledge and energy with our TIA community.
